Francesco Vezzoli
Francesco Vezzoli’s Trailer for a Remake of Gore Vidal’s Caligula (2005) is on view at the Italian Pavilion at Venice Biennale until November 2005. His exhibition Trilogia della morte (Trilogy of Death), presented by the Fonadazione Prada at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice, will be on view until September 2005.
What are you working on at the moment?
A remake of the 1984 documentary Marlene, by Maximilian Schell, in which Marlene Dietrich stars next to Anni Albers.
What images keep you company in the space where you work?
The front pages and covers of the magazines and newspapers I read everyday.
What was the first piece of art that really mattered to you?
For the duration of my childhood I had a Mario Merz poster in my bedroom.
What film has most influenced you?
Gruppo di famiglia in un interno (Conversation Piece, 1974) by Luchino Visconti.
What is your favourite title of an art work?
Flour Arrangements (1967) by Bruce Nauman.
What do you wish you knew?
How to live forever.
What should change?
Everything always stays the same.

Nothing ever changes.
What could you imagine doing if you didn’t do what you do?
Being a politician.
What music are you listening to?
The Police, Rufus Wainwright, Mahler and David Morales’s club mixes.
If you could live with only one piece of art what would it be?
The Ambassadors (1533) by Hans Holbein.

Anything I can find at night at the newsstand.
