Questionnaire

Tino Sehgal is an artist based in Berlin. His work is currently on view at the Total Museum in Seoul.

What images keep you company where you work?

My love.

If you could live with only one piece of art what would it be?

The Show Must Go On (2001) by Jérôme Bel

What was the first piece of art that really mattered to you?

I am making art (1971) by John Baldessari.

What is your favourite title of an art work?

I am making art (1971) by John Baldessari.

What films have most influenced you?

Films?

What should change?

That people’s status is dependent on what their professional occupation is and only to a very small extent on what they do otherwise and how they do it. If this changed, it would lower the pressure to be employed and allow the economy to grow whilst leaving time for other, more sensible and possibly fulfilling, activities. Of course such a culture would sooner or later necessitate some kind of unconditional basic income provided by the state.

What should stay the same?

Love

What do you wish you knew?

Love.

What are you reading?

My book recommendation is John Kenneth Galbraith’s Affluent Society (1958).

What music has influenced you?

Kylie Minogue and John Zorn.

What could you imagine doing if you didn’t do what you do?

Being a regular politician.

What is art for?

True politics.

What is art not for?

Representing politics.
