Writer’s Prize Call For Entries 2011

frieze, the leading magazine for contemporary art and culture, is inviting entries for the Frieze Writer’s Prize 2011.
Frieze Writer’s Prize was established in 2006 and is presented annually. The aim of the prize is to promote and encourage new critics from across the world,
and many of the previous winners and commended entrants have gone on to contribute to frieze magazine.
The judges for 2011 will be novelist Hari Kunzru; the art historian and critic Katy Siegel and senior editor of frieze, Dan Fox.
Writers are invited to submit an unpublished 700-word review in English of a recent contemporary art exhibition. Applicants must be over 18-years old and must not have had more than three pieces of writing on art published in a newspaper or magazine. The closing date for entries is 27 June 2011 and the winner of the prize will be announced in September.
The winner will be awarded £2,000 and commissioned to write a review for the October issue of frieze.
Dan Fox, Senior Editor of frieze commented: ‘There are many awards for young artists and curators, but there is surprisingly little in the art world that exists to support critics in the difficult early stages of their careers. We are proud to say that this is now the sixth year of the Frieze Writer’s Prize, continuing our commitment to encourage new writing. I am honoured to be sharing the jury this year with Katy Siegel and Hari Kunzru, whose work I have great admiration for, and I am excited at the prospect of discovering new writing talent.’
