  • French-Moroccan photographer and video artist Leila Alaoui has died, aged 33. Alaoui was shot in a terrorist attack in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Friday night, and died from her injuries late on Monday.
     
  • Cecilia Alemani, the Donald R. Mullen, Jr. Curator and Director of High Line Art, New York, and the curator of Frieze Projects at Frieze New York, has been named curator of the Italian Pavilion for the 2017 Venice Biennale. (Italian)
     
  • The Bank of England has announced that a self-portrait of J.M.W Turner will grace the new £20 notes, which will be released in 2020. The final shortlist featured Charlie Chaplin, Barbara Hepworth, William Hogarth and the potter Josiah Wedgwood.
     
  • Italian authorities have recovered three 15th-century paintings that were looted by the Nazis from a Tuscan villa during the Second World War. The works are attributed to Cima da Conegliano, Alessio Baldovinetti and Girolamo dai Libri.
     
  • Chinese curator, critic and author Huang Zhuan has died, aged 58. Huang, who published a number of essays on Chinese contemporary art and played a decisive role in the conception of the new OCAT Institute, Beijing, which opened last year, had been battling cancer for a number of years.
