A teenager was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday 4 August 2019, following a child being thrown from the Tate Modern’s 10th floor viewing platform, according to Reuters. The victim landed on a fifth floor roof. The six-year-old boy, who is in a critical condition, was treated on site and then taken to hospital by London’s Air Ambulance.

The Metropolitan police said in a statement: ‘A 17-year-old male had remained with members of the public on the tenth floor viewing platform. There is nothing to suggest that he is known to the victim. The teenager was arrested by police officers on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into police custody.’

Visitors to the gallery this afternoon said that the building was placed on lockdown as the ambulance attended to the situation. Videos uploaded to Twitter showed the air ambulance taking off from outside the London gallery. Visitors were later allowed to leave, a statement from the Met confirmed, with the building closed for the rest of the day.

The gallery said in a statement sent to frieze: ‘Tate is working closely with the police to help with their investigations. All our thoughts are with the child and his family.’
