London | Shoreditch Arts Club: The Gesture of Colour

December 2025
London, United Kingdom

Join emerging artist Tallulah Hutson for a hands-on drawing workshop at Shoreditch Arts Club, exploring the connections between movement, colour and emotion.

What does blue mean to you? Can red hold different depths of feeling? Is purple always something in between?

This class will explore how hue and vibrancy shape our understanding of gesture and mood in art. Beginning with a short video reference, we’ll consider how colour and movement interact to create atmosphere. Participants will first use a monochrome drawing exercise to isolate human gesture, before reintroducing colour through light and projection. You’ll be invited to experiment with how your work changes as different colours are cast across it, and to choose one to take home for further exploration.

All skill levels are welcome. Materials will be provided, though personal sketchbooks are encouraged.

Tallulah Hutson

Tallulah Hutson is a figurative oil painter whose practice has expanded from portraiture to exploring the body in motion. Through painting dancing figures in heightened states, Tallulah investigates themes of escapism, transcendence, defiance and despair.

Born and raised in London, Tallulah trained in figure drawing and portraiture at Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy, before returning to London to develop her practice at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation, where she has been a resident artist since 2021. In 2023, she undertook an intensive eight-week residency in New York, and in 2025 completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London.

Tallulah’s work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, London, as a shortlisted artist for the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award 2025 (formerly the BP Portrait Award). The exhibition will tour to the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, from March to September 2026. Her first solo show, Flowers on the Underground, was held at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation Archway Gallery in 2024, and she has participated in group exhibitions across London and New York.
