Launched in April 2011, frieze d/e is a fully bilingual German/English magazine with its own editorial team and independent content. d/e stands for ‘Deutsch’ and ‘English’. With editing and production based in Berlin, the magazine offers in-depth coverage of contemporary art and culture throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland while closely following the international artist communities in this region.

Both frieze d/e and frieze magazine focus on contemporary art. Launched in 2011, frieze d/e was the first new magazine by Frieze since the first edition of frieze magazine in 1991. Unlike frieze magazine, based in London and written in English, frieze d/e is a fully bilingual German/English magazine with its own editorial team and independent content, based in Berlin.

What is the relationship between publishing and the fairs?
The fairs and magazines are both wholly owned by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover. frieze magazine was founded, in 1991, by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover. When the magazine began, they both served as editors, but ceased direct involvement in editorial decisions in 2001. Sharp and Slotover are publishing directors of frieze d/e but all editorial decisions are made by the frieze d/e editorial team. As Frieze CEOs, Sharp and Slotover maintain the overall direction of the art fairs and magazines.
