Frieze House Seoul is Frieze’s brand new permamant exhibition space. Opening in September 2025, it will bring leading galleries to the heart of the Korean capital in a year-round programme of exhibitions and events. Building on the success of No.9 Cork Street in London, Frieze House Seoul will be a vital platform for global and local art scenes to connect.
Located in Yaksu-dong, a neighbourhood at the intersection of Seoul’s contemporary and historic districts, Frieze House reflects the area’s growing status as a centre for creativity. The space will offer the opportunity to experience ambitious programming beyond Frieze’s fair calendar, featuring short-term gallery residencies, special projects and curated exhibitions.
The launch of Frieze House Seoul will coincide with Frieze Seoul 2025 and feature expanded elements of the fair’s celebrated programming, including performances from Frieze LIVE.
‘Frieze House Seoul marks a natural and exciting evolution of our presence in Korea,’ said Kristell Chadé, executive director of fairs at Frieze. ‘Our aim is to create new opportunities for galleries from all over the world to establish a presence in one of the world’s most dynamic art markets.’
Patrick Lee, director of Frieze Seoul, added: ‘Building on the momentum of Frieze Seoul and celebrating Frieze’s creative spirit, Frieze House will offer a new way to experience international and Korean contemporary art in dialogue. We’re excited to create a space that reflects the energy, experimentation and ambition that define Seoul’s cultural landscape. With Frieze House, we’re deepening our long-term commitment to the city and its artistic community.’
About the Space
Built in 1988, during a pivotal moment in Korea’s modern history, the building that contains Frieze House Seoul retains the character of the period in a newly renovated space by Seoul-based architectural studio Samuso Hyoja, with lead contractor management by Our Labour. With two main exhibition spaces across four floors, Frieze House Seoul offers more than 210 square metres of display space, with a central indoor area dedicated to sculpture.
The expansive landscaped garden will feature a permanent site-specific installation by SANAA, the acclaimed Japanese architecture studio led by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa. Continuing SANAA’s ‘Drop Chair’ and ‘Wuzhen Chair’ series, the work features an aluminium seat and stainless steel legs that dip to collect rainwater, forming a fluid circle with floral motifs at each leg’s end.
