Harper’s Gallery began in 1997 as Harper’s Books, with a founding mission to explore the relationship between fine art and print media. In 2007, Harper’s Books in East Hampton began hosting artist-curated shows, which led to continuous programming of solo exhibitions.
In 2016, Harper’s expanded into New York City with Harper’s Apartment on the Upper East Side, the gallery’s first dedicated exhibition space focused exclusively on contemporary art. In 2017, artist representation began, and by 2020, Harper’s moved into a new space in Chelsea, continuing its commitment to contemporary artists.
In 2022, Harper’s opened its flagship gallery in Chelsea—a 4,000-square-foot space designed to support the growing ambitions of its artists. Alongside the gallery, a rare bookstore dedicated to art, photography, design, and literature was established, hosting book launches, talks, and events. All three spaces are located on 22nd Street in Chelsea.
In 2026, Harper’s will open its first international location in Bangkok, building on longstanding relationships in Southeast Asia and extending the gallery’s curatorial and strategic footprint. Drawn to Bangkok’s emergence as a new frontier for contemporary art collecting, the gallery will unveil an updated model that reflects the region’s unique intersection of culture, hospitality, and global connectivity.
