Founded in 1974, Luisa Strina is one of the most influential galleries in Brazil, playing a key role in the consolidation of the contemporary art market in the country. It was a pioneer in shaping a generation of Brazilian conceptual artists, including Antonio Dias, Cildo Meireles, Tunga, and Waltercio Caldas. In the 1990s, the gallery expanded its reach by representing emerging artists such as Alexandre da Cunha, Fernanda Gomes, and Marepe. In 1992, it became the first Latin American gallery to participate in the prestigious Art Basel fair, paving the way for the internationalization of Brazilian art. Since then, it has established a strong presence at some of the world’s most important art fairs, including Art Basel Paris and Miami Beach, ARCO Madrid, Frieze, and SP-Arte. Throughout the 2000s, its roster expanded to include major Latin American artists such as Jorge Macchi, Juan Araujo, and Pedro Reyes, as well as established women artists like Laura Lima, Leonor Antunes, and Renata Lucas. In the past decade, the gallery has reaffirmed its role as an international reference, representing influential artists such as Alfredo Jaar and Anna Maria Maiolino, while continuing to invest in new generations, with names like Bruno Baptistelli and Panmela Castro.
