Editorial Assistant

Frieze is the world’s leading platform for modern and contemporary art for scholars, connoisseurs, collectors, and the general public alike. Frieze comprises three magazines – frieze, Frieze Masters Magazine and Frieze Week – and five international art fairs – Frieze London, Frieze Masters, Frieze New York, Frieze Los Angeles and Frieze Seoul (launching September 2022). In addition, this October, Frieze will launch No.9 Cork Street, a hub for visiting international galleries in the heart of Mayfair, London. Frieze is part of the IMG network. IMG is a global leader in sports, fashion, events and media and is a subsidiary of Endeavor, a global entertainment, sports and content company. 

Contract Summary

The person will coordinate with US, UK and EU-based editors, as well as the production, design and marketing teams to research and help execute columns in print and online, as well as related web and in-person projects for audiences around the world.

Key Accountabilities

  • Sourcing and researching images, liaising with galleries, picture libraries and photographers for commissions in collaboration with the Publishing Trainee
  • Attending and contributing to editorial meetings and taking editorial minutes
  • Helping to upload each issue of the magazine to the website, maintaining the website archive and ensuring the homepage slideshow is up to date
  • Producing regular round-up pieces for frieze.com of articles and reviews from around the world’
  • Captioning images, adding courtesies, pull-quotes, decks and titles in collaboration with other editorial staff
  • Proofreading editorial PDFs and printed proofs to check for accuracy, consistency with Frieze House Style and to ensure there are no formatting or typographical errors
  • In collaboration with other editorial staff, inputting proofing corrections into InDesign layouts
  • Press-passing the magazine at the printers at least two times a year
  • Responding to general enquiries from the public and monitoring the editors@frieze.com email address
  • Working across the content division to produce ambitious, collaborative editorial projects 
  • Image research, captioning and uploading content for Frieze Week and Frieze Masters magazines, in collaboration with Frieze Studios team
  • Assisting live and online events (sometimes out of regular office hours) and producing editorial write-ups as required

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with InDesign and Microsoft systems, including Outlook, Exchange, Powerpoint, and so on
  • Some experience in arts, culture and news publications
  • A strong, demonstrable commitment to the arts around the world
  • Acute attention to detail, veracity and quality
  • A desire to work regularly with colleagues seated in multiple time-zones

Working Conditions

  • This is a permanent position.
  • Please note, remote working set up until lockdown restrictions have been lifted. Thereafter, the role would be based at Surry Street
  • Working hours are 10:00 –18:00, Monday to Friday 
  • Occasional travel and weekend work may be required
