Head of Exhibitor Production & Drafting

The Head of Exhibitor Production & Drafting role provides high level technical and logistical information required for Exhibitors and art-led projects within all Frieze Art Fairs.  A critical part of the role is managing the delivery, budgeting and contractors of all Exhibitor build and install/deinstall for the US fair model.  The role also oversees the drafting of all floor plans for the Fairs, Frieze Sculpture, Health and Safety and manages the major exhibitor-related contractors and freelancers on site.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of all exhibitor production across Frieze’s fairs, including Frieze Sculpture.
  • Management of Exhibitor Production team in both event-specific resourcing and HR.
  • High level management of the CAD drawing process across Frieze’s fairs
  • Oversee all pricing and quoting for exhibitor-related build.
  • Management of budget reporting for exhibitor-related production across all fairs.
  • Management of labor and materials scheduling for all projects.
  • Conduct research & development into future events, including locations, venues and stand build developments (new walling systems, lighting options, etc.)
  • Responsible for tenders and contracts for key contractors.
  • Oversee and advise on complex exhibitor installations and stand builds, particularly focussed on health & safety, including communication with exhibitors.
  • High level project management of the design and build of complex ‘Feature Areas’ to ensure timely delivery of drawings by the department to the relevant Production Manager.
  • Oversee exhibitor shipping across the USA and South Korean fairs.
  • Manage health & safety requirements to ensure stand build meets legal and industry standards, including regular reviews of this documentation.
  • Provide excellent client service to exhibitors, where required, and provide understanding of production capabilities vs. client needs.
  • Conduct quality control checks, in conjunction with existing teams.
  • Coordinate with post-project reviews and create recommendation reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical experience in artwork installations, or similar publicly accessible temporary structures.
  • Experience in Production / project management.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, ideally in events or the arts.
  • Proven experience in managing a team of people, including remote/long-distance management and freelancers.
  • Health & Safety qualification and/or extensive proven experience (UK preferred).
  • Experience in administration management, with a focus on scheduling and budgeting.
  • Experienced working with multiple external contractors.
  • Clean Driving License.
  • Experience leading global projects.
  • Experience in working on art fairs and/or large-scale public events.
  • Experience in applying for Planning Permission in the UK.
  • Experience with obtaining work / build permits.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment (eg forklifts, man lifts).
  • Competent draughting skills, using Vectorworks (or similar CAD software) in both 2D and 3D capacities.

 Working Conditions

  • This is a permanent position.
  • The location is Surrey Street, London.
  • Working hours are 10:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday (longer hours when working on site).
  • Occasional weekend work may be required.
  • Extensive international travel will be required.
  • Extended hours will be required when meeting project deadlines and when on site.
