New video series À la Carte literally dines out on Frieze’s reputation as the meeting point for global contemporary art. Across its episodes, Frieze fair directors sit down for dinner with diverse and important figures from across the art world for a candid conversation about what matters to them, what trends they have spotted, what’s changing and what lies ahead.

In episode 1, Eva Langret, director of Frieze EMEA, goes to Marylebone’s ‘no borders kitchen’ Jikoni (which will also be on site at Frieze London this year) for some African/Asian/Middle Eastern food with two old friends: Salma Tuqan, director of Nottingham Contemporary, and Stefan Benchoam, co-founder and director of pioneering Guatemala City gallery Proyectos Ultravioleta

Benchoam discusses the origins of his gallery, which he started with three others artists, and his subsequent move to London (‘so many great things are happening here’), as well as offering advice to first-time exhibitors at Frieze. Tuqan explains how the idea that ‘the international can be locally resonant’ is of such importance for her institution. And all three reveal that they are – respectively – a frustrated landscape gardener, architect and jewellery designer.

Proyectos Ultravioleta is participating in Frieze London 2025.

Nottingham Contemporary will feature as part of the non-profits at the fair.
