‘Fourth State’ is a film by Tête-à-Tête and Austin Lynch – specially-commissioned by frieze magazine for the themed ‘Altered States’ issue, out now. Browse all the content from the issue here, including David Lynch answering the frieze Questionnaire: ‘I was a teenage insect.’

On the occasion of the ‘Altered States issue’, frieze magazine and Marciano Art Foundation, Los Angeles, presented a conversation with David Lynch and frieze senior editor and novelist Andrew Durbin about Lynch’s practice as a fine artist, focusing specifically on his sculpture and painting. Drawing on his new memoir Room to Dream and works being produced for upcoming exhibitions at Kayne Griffin Corcoran in Los Angeles and Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, Lynch and Durbin engaged in a wide-ranging conversation about Lynch’s art practice, from his early days at the Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts to the present. Watch the talk in full here.
