London | Exhibition Tour at the Garden Museum with Artist Nancy Cadogan

July 2025
London, United Kingdom

Frieze Connect members are invited to a private view of The Lost Trees at the Garden Museum, where artist Nancy Cadogan will personally lead a walkthrough of the exhibition.

The inspiration for the exhibition came from the felling of trees near Cadogan’s home for the HS2 project. She witnessed the community’s immediate grief and the personal stories that emerged, revealing the deep connections people had to these treasured specimens. In The Lost Trees, Cadogan explores the emotional and environmental significance of trees through the human stories and connections tied to these lost giants. Her paintings serve as memorials and tributes to the trees, whether from private gardens, parks, or hedgerows—each felled for different reasons. These works are uplifting testaments to the enduring legacy of trees and the vital role they play in our lives, and what they do for us.

The Garden Museum explores and celebrates the art, history and design of British gardens and their place in our lives today. It is home to the Archive of Garden Design, which preserves and provides access to the working records of leading British garden designers of the 20th and 21st century.

Visitors can discover the stories of great gardeners through a permanent collection of artefacts and tools from gardening throughout history alongside botanical art, photography, and paintings exploring how and why we garden. Exhibitions, events, and community projects delve into art, architecture, plant science, food, sustainability, well-being and more, all through the lens of gardening.
