Frieze Connect members are invited to attend an exclusive breakfast and private view of Summer Exhibition 2024 and Kiefer / Van Gogh at the Royal Academy of Arts.
Enjoy access to the galleries before they open to the public from 8–10am, followed by a complimentary breakfast in the Academicians’ Room.
The Academicians’ Room is on the first floor of the Keeper’s House and can be accessed via the RA’s Burlington House entrance. Usually reserved for House Members, it is a favourite haunt of Royal Academicians with a well-stocked bar, armchairs to sink into, changing art displays and the latest catalogues and magazines.
Held every year without interruption since 1769, the Summer Exhibition showcases a diverse array of contemporary works, including prints, paintings, films, photography, sculpture, and architectural works. It features a mix of art by household names and emerging talent.
Many works will be available to buy and sales will directly support the exhibiting artists and the RA’s charitable work, including training the next generation of artists at the Royal Academy Schools.
In 1890 Vincent van Gogh painted his final works.
Kiefer has been inspired by Van Gogh’s work throughout his nearly 60-year career. The pioneer of Post-Impressionism has informed the subjects and techniques of Kiefer’s monumental paintings and sculptures which draw on history, mythology, literature, philosophy and science.
This focused exhibition, set across the three rooms of the RA’s smaller galleries, is the first to consider the lasting influence that Van Gogh has on Kiefer. It will feature works by both artists, including new pieces by Kiefer which haven’t been shown before.
Frieze Connect members may bring one guest to the breakfast and private view. Booking breakfast will enable entry to the exhibition.
