The gallery was first founded in the end of 1999, representing young, emerging artists. Guenther has accompanied most of her artist’s careers from their very beginning. The programme is focusing on conceptually working artists, who are taking into account the material qualities of art’s traditional media, bridging the historical leap between the rise of conceptualism and its actualizations. In 2004 Guenther intermitted her gallery to join up with Nina Borgmann to start an entirely new structure: the joined gallery Guenther/Borgmann, which existed for two years.
In 2006 Karin Guenther re-opened and has been working successfully with a steady group of artists since. As part of the gallery’s new initiation the younger artists were complemented by some more "established" positions, influential for this younger generation. In February 2022 the gallery moved into a new larger space in the same complex.
