New York | Studio Visit with Nancy Baker Cahill

July, 2025
Upstate New York

As part of upstate open studios—a new feature of this year’s Upstate Art Weekend—members are invited to visit the Germantown studio of acclaimed artist and expanded filmmaker Nancy Baker Cahill.

Baker Cahill is known for her transdisciplinary, research-based practice, which explores consciousness, intelligence, and embodiment through the lens of complex systems. Her work frequently investigates power structures and their ecological and social impacts, often using emerging technologies like augmented reality. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of 4th Wall, a free AR public art platform, and her work has been featured in FriezeThe Art Newspaper, and The New York Times.

She is a recipient of the LACMA Art + Tech Grant, a COLA Master Artist Fellowship, and the Williams College Bicentennial Medal of Honor. Her work is held in the collections of LACMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and several international institutions, and she is currently an Affiliate of the Harvard metaLAB.

This is a rare opportunity to meet the artist in her studio and experience her current work firsthand. The visit coincides with Upstate Art Weekend, which features over 200 participating artists and institutions across the region.
