The Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award has eight Fellows in 2024: Octavia AndersonJonathan Estrada-Salazar, Celine EvaJeanine FiserKaylen NgMiguel RamirezKat Torres and Britt Williams. In this video, they explore what it means to be emerging filmmakers in Los Angeles today, and discuss the importance of fellowship and community, and how these have the power to change the industry.

This year, the Fellows were invited to respond to the theme of “Technological Transformations” and how emerging virtual realms impact individuals, societies, relationships and the environment. In this video, the Fellows are careful to explain that they did not approach the subject in isolation, and that the city is an important part of their vision.

“What attracted me was the ability to play with the relationship between technology and Los Angeles,” explains Ramirez. Several Fellows talk about the sense of community that the program fosters, and the “beautiful stories” yet to be discovered in the city, while Fiser observes: “No matter what technology evolves, at the end of the day we’re all still humans. The same things still make us tick, the same emotions still drive us. That’s not going to change.”
