The Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award returns to the fair for its fifth year in 2024. Realized in partnership with global film and TV studio FIFTH SEASON and non-profit academy Ghetto Film School, the initiative provides a platform and development program for the next generation of Los Angeles-based filmmakers aged 18–34.
This year’s eight shortlisted filmmakers are Octavia Anderson, Jonathan Estrada-Salazar, Celine Eva, Jeanine Fiser, Kaylen Ng, Miguel Ramirez, Kat Torres and Britt Williams. They have undertaken a rigorous three-month program led by Ghetto Film School to each produce an individual short film exploring the theme of “Technological Transformations” and their impact on our lives.
A panel of leading figures in the arts and entertainment industry select the recipient of the Jury Award, while the public can cast their votes in the Audience Award. The Jury Award winner receives a $10,000 prize and the Audience Award winner a prize of $2,500. The successful filmmakers are announced during Frieze Los Angeles 2024.
Voting for the Audience Award opens on January 23, 2024, and runs until February 26, 2024.
