Frieze New York is returning to The Shed in May 2025. The 13th edition of Frieze New York will bring together world-leading galleries alongside a program that celebrates New York's pivotal non-profits and institutions. We are seeking temporary staff to fill the following roles:
Accreditation Team: This team issues passes to all personnel working and exhibiting at the fair, Applicants should be IT literate and comfortable using databases. Good people management skills and experience working with the public and/or contractors in a very fast paced environment are essential. This role needs to have a good understanding of the security issues surrounding the Fair and liaise with security as necessary.
Distribution Team: These positions are physical and involve a high degree of manual handling. This team assists the Marketing and Production departments with set up and onsite deliveries. Applicants should be dynamic, enthusiastic, highly communicative, and reliable.
Exhibitor Assistant: This position is customer service based, and entails assisting the Exhibitor team with exhibitor queries and other aspects of fair management, while also performing general runner tasks. Applicants should have good interpersonal, organizational and computer skills, as well as experience working in a fast-paced environment. A knowledge of and genuine interest in contemporary art is desirable, as is prior experience working in an art fair or gallery environment. Candidates who speak languages in addition to English are especially encouraged to apply.
Tasks
· Support the permanent team and exhibitors with the fair installation and deinstallation, including assembling the required materials for the desk and lounge
· Communicate directly with exhibitors, relaying information from the permanent team and answering questions
· Issuing credentials to exhibitors, including operating the online credentials database and verifying IDs
· Deal with exhibitor inquiries, knowing when to defer to the permanent team when an issue is complex or technical
· This role requires standing and runner tasks, particularly at busy times
· Forming online archives of paper forms and onsite documents
· Distribution of equipment to exhibitors from the Exhibitors’ Desk and may also involve the transportation of equipment to various locations onsite at the fair
· Use of POS equipment to process payments
PR/Press Team: These positions involve familiarizing media with the fair, using online check-in systems, chaperoning film crews and updating image banks. Applicants should be personable, patient and have strong people management and IT skills. Prior PR or events experience desirable, as is an interest in contemporary art. Candidates who speak languages in addition to English are especially encouraged to apply.
Publishing and Info Team: Applicants should be personable and friendly, with previous sales/retail experience. Familiarity with frieze publications is desirable. These public facing positions are incredibly important to the overall visitor experience of Frieze and involve extended periods of standing.
Tour Desk Assistant: This position is public facing, and involves scheduling tours, greeting clients and answering questions pertaining to the Tours program at Frieze. Applicants should be personable and organized. Interest in and knowledge about contemporary art is desirable.
VIP Assistants: This team works both onsite greeting VIPs at the entrance to the fair, and offsite, staffing events at various locations throughout fair week. All positions may involve extended periods of standing. Applicants should have experience of working with VIPs in a fast-moving environment, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively handle high-pressure situations, and familiarity with database check-in systems. These public facing positions are incredibly important to the overall visitor experience of Frieze.
Visitor Experience Team: This team is based at Front of House, and engages in a variety of duties including greeting guests upon arrival, responding to any inquiries prior to fair entry, and performing a soft credentials check. Applicants should be very outgoing, enthusiastic, patient, detail-oriented communicators who are comfortable addressing crowds and VIP clientele. This position is primarily a standing position. Due to the proactive communication style employed by this team, applicants with acting/theater training are welcome; prior Brand Ambassador experience is preferred. These public facing positions are incredibly important to the overall visitor experience of Frieze.
Compensation for all roles is hourly; the rate for most positions is $28.00 per hour.
