Frieze has partnered with LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division), to give away a framed limited-edition print by Kate Costello worth $500 to one lucky visitor to Frieze Viewing Room.

LAND is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 committed to curating site-specific public art exhibitions in Los Angeles and beyond. LAND believes that all people deserve the opportunity to experience innovative contemporary art in their everyday existence, to enhance their quality of life and ways of thinking about their community. For Frieze Los Angeles 2022, LAND is supporting Isabel Yellin’s large-scale work, The Pillar of the Intangible (2022), which will be on view at the fair as part of the Frieze Projects program. Kate Costello, Untitled, 2010, 16 x 11 inches. Archival inkjet print. Edition number 3 of 20

Kate Costello is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles and Berlin. Costello’s work connects details of visual vernaculars with larger archetypes of language and influence. In 2022, she will install a public commission curated by Anne Ellegood in downtown Los Angeles.

The limited edition Untitled, 2010, was commissioned for a LAND exhibition, ‘The Secret (Still) Knows’, which took place in Austin, Texas and Los Angeles, in 2010. Each artist was given the prompt to find inspiration in the following Robert Frost couplet: “We dance round in a ring and suppose, / But the Secret sits in the middle and knows.”

The edition was made from a work that brought together varying approaches to drawing that Costello was exploring at the time – a type of collage of her own work. It includes motifs that are seen in her earlier works, Kiki & Me (2005-2014) and Drawings, which was shown in her 2015 exhibition at LAXART.

To be in the chance of winning this framed edition, please ‘Sign the Book’ on the competition page between February 15-20, 2022, which will automatically submit your details. The competition will close at 6pm PST on February 20, 2022. One winner will be picked at random at the end of February.
