About the Work

The film explores the many narratives contained in the art of matchboxes. Based on the donation by Gautam Hemmady of 35,000 matchboxes to the Museum of Art & Photography in Bengaluru, it presents the symbols and images presented on their labels as a chaotic yet meaningful mosaic of knowledge and wisdom. In doing so, it reflects on both the interplay of dreams and reality, and the paradoxical nature of collecting and creation.

The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale (SMB13) × Frieze Film Seoul 2025

The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale presents a special screening program curated by artistic directors Anton Vidokle, Hallie Ayres and Lukas Brasiskis for Frieze Film Seoul 2025. The screenings will take place on the rooftop of Seoul Museum of Art and feature a selection of artists’ films that converge spiritual, mystical, and magical forces on the screen in ways that change our understanding of everyday life. Composed in four chapters - Harmony, Reclaiming, Communion, and Waking Dreams - the screening programme will be accompanied by introductions by the artistic directors and a reception on the programme’s opening day.
