About the Work

Portal is informed by the creation myth of Jeju, accord- ing to which the goddess Seolmundae Halmang is the progenitor of all life. Here, as elsewhere in the artist’s work, the land and sea are interconnected entities. Portal invokes a space of flux and emergence, in which language has yet to settle into form, and everything remains undefined.

The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale (SMB13) × Frieze Film Seoul 2025

The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale presents a special screening program curated by artistic directors Anton Vidokle, Hallie Ayres and Lukas Brasiskis for Frieze Film Seoul 2025. The screenings will take place on the rooftop of Seoul Museum of Art and feature a selection of artists’ films that converge spiritual, mystical, and magical forces on the screen in ways that change our understanding of everyday life. Composed in four chapters - Harmony, Reclaiming, Communion, and Waking Dreams - the screening programme will be accompanied by introductions by the artistic directors and a reception on the programme’s opening day.
