About the Work

The island Matsu in the Taiwan Strait is under the commandment of a local god called The Marshal. This frog deity came from a temple on Wu-Yi Mountain in China, which was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, prompting The Marshal to migrate. Hsu films the island with a fictionalized version of the original tiny temple, long since replaced by a dilapidated bunker.
