Job Title: Gallery Assistant, Frieze House. Seoul

Reporting to: Gallery Director Frieze House. Seoul

Location: Frieze House Seoul 

Contract: Full-time, 1-year fixed term

About the Role

Launching in Autumn 2025, Frieze House Seoul hosts short-term exhibitions and projects from the world’s leading galleries, providing a flexible, collaborative environment for them to connect with Frieze’s established network of collectors, curators and art world professionals year-round.

The Gallery Assistant will support the daily operations of Frieze House Seoul assisting the Gallery Director with production, financial and administrative management. The Gallery Assistant will also be responsible for staffing the reception area, greeting visiting staff and guests, and day to day management of the gallery spaces. This role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to administrative and operational tasks.

Note: This position requires weekend and evening work, with a flexible working schedule.

Key Responsibilities 

Exhibition & Venue Support

  • Assist all aspects of planning and delivering the programme of exhibitions and events of Frieze House Seoul
  • Maintain gallery schedules, documentation, and records.
  • Ensure all areas, including the galleries, viewing rooms, art storage, remain clean and presentable.
  • Support smooth execution of exhibitions and events, ensuring a high level of service for galleries and visitors.
  • Escalate any operational concerns or hazards to the Gallery Director.

Visitor Experience & Front Desk Management

  • Run the front desk, proactively welcoming and assisting visitors.
  • Provide visitors with information on current and upcoming exhibitions.
  • Handle visitor inquiries in-person and via email.
  • Maintain a daily record of visitor numbers.

Events & Marketing Coordination

  • Support event logistics, including setup, dismantling, and liaising with external contractors.
  • Assist with social media updates and marketing materials in coordination with internal teams.
  • Support mailouts and audience engagement initiatives.

Gallery Management

  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Liaise with office manager, contractors and suppliers on gallery space maintenance as required.
  • Ensure the gallery spaces remain organized and well-maintained.
  • Manage the preferred supplier list, ensuring appropriate levels of essential gallery equipment are kept in stock

Administrative & Financial Support

  • Support invoice processing, payments, and general financial administration in relation to gallery operations.
  • Assist with contracts and keep all documentation relating to the gallery spaces up to date.
  • Report IT system or communication network issues when necessary.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in customer service, arts administration, or gallery/museum operations.
  • Experience in front desk roles or visitor services, .
  • Familiarity with exhibition, event, or project coordination and operational planning.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, including handling emails, invoices, and IT support.
  • Interest in and knowledge of contemporary visual arts and the cultural sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Korean and English.
  • Willingness to learn quickly, adapt, and develop established working practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, and website/social media management tools.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multitask, collaborate with stakeholders, and work both independently and as part of a team.
