Alex Israel will lead a private tour of his studio, in conversation with Klaus Biesenbach, Director of MOCA.  

Alex Israel lives and works in Los Angeles. Deeply entwined with his hometown, his work explores popular media, Hollywood, and the cult of celebrity, while positing LA as central to an understanding of American culture and the American dream. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at: Le Consortium, Dijon; The Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas; The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, California; and the Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo. His work is included in numerous museum collections worldwide including: MoMA, New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; MOCA, Los Angeles; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Centre Pompidou, Paris; The Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C., and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Israel is the founder and CEO of both Freeway Eyewear and Infrathin Apparel, and his first feature length film, SPF-18, is available on both iTunes and Netflix.

Klaus Biesenbach is the Director of MOCA. He came to Los Angeles from MoMA in New York, where he served as Chief Curator at Large of The Museum of Modern Art and as Director of MoMA PS1. Biesenbach is also the Founding Director of Kunst-Werke (KW) Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin and the Berlin Biennale.
