David Kordansky Gallery is pleased to announce its publication of like the land loves the sea, a large-format monograph that documents Mary Weatherford's recent solo exhibition at the gallery. A book release and signing with the artist will take place at the gallery on Wednesday, February 13 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Featuring an essay by critic Phyllis Tuchman and photographs by Fredrik Nilsen Studio, the book has been designed by Green Dragon Office; the design itself is inspired by a 1948 book of Matisse drawings found by a friend of Weatherford's in an antiquarian bookstore. Immersive, full-color images of the paintings and the exhibition installation document this major group of neon paintings, among them several mural-sized canvases, in all their richness and complexity. The paintings' titles have been written by Weatherford in her own script, allowing for full appreciation of their poetry and the narrative prompts that drive the work.
