Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916) "Interiør fra Strandgade 30 (Interior from Strandgade 30)", signed with initials and dated "V.H. 1900", oil on canvas, 52 x 45 cm., estimate DKK 20-30m (£2.6-4 m)

Frederik Bruun Rasmussen and Julie Arendse Voss from Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers will discuss the Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi, examining the reasons his soulful, poetic interiors have enthralled audiences worldwide for more than a century. Hammershøi’s views of his apartment at Strandgade 30 in Christianshavn, in the heart of Copenhagen, where he lived with his wife Ida from 1898 – 1908, are among his most quintessential works. The talk will be between the art historian and curator MaryAnne Stevens, the Head of department of Fine Art, Drawings and Prints at Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers, Julie Arendse Voss and the auctioneer Frederik Bruun Rasmussen. There will be an opportunity to view an exceptionally fine Strandgade interior painting, which will be offered for auction at Bruun Rasmussen in Copenhagen in November. Coffee and Danish pastries will be served.
