Ah, the Mandrake.
Almost turned eighteen, almost got old enough to vote. We had some good years together.
I’ll miss running into artists there after openings. I’ll miss getting to close out a late night with some tune designed to clear the dance floor.
I made a mix of the last songs I played at the Mandrake on the evening of Sunday, March 17th, 2024. And yes, I was wearing green.
For nearly two decades, DIY Culver City art bar the Mandrake was a key landmark in the LA art scene. Dave is one of many artists who pay tribute to the beloved watering hole in Issue 256’s oral history.
